381 Monument-North Barrule
North Barrule Summit

On the 23rd April 1945, a Boeing B-17G, flying from RAF Ridgewell to Nutt’s Corner in Ireland, carrying 29 military passengers and 2 crew, crashed into the side of North Barrule, in heavy fog. Everyone was killed. This is the worst aviation accident to have happened on the Island. There is a flagpole next to the site, to raise an American flag, each year, to honour the servicemen who lost their lives in the crash.
