Manx Tholtans

Tholtan translates as “bush settlement” and has come to define the remote and abandoned Crofts on the Island. They are scattered all over, passed by on country roads or found down glens or up hillsides. There is a mystery and romanticism about them, reminding us of times gone by.

Tholtans can be found in: Cronk-y-Voddy, The Dhoon, Eairy Beg, Scard and Sulby Glen among other places.
