St. Michael’s Isle-Fort Island

This is a beautiful spot to watch the night sky.The duel naming of this Islet depends on the importance given to  the fort build by the Seventh Earl of Derby versus the original Catholic Church dedicated to St Micheal. The area was used as a landing site by Scottish invaders in 1250 and 1275. The Manx suffered serious defeat in the second attack and it is believed that the last Norse King of Man,  Godred Magnusson, died in the battle. King Alexander of Scotland then claimed the Isle of Man until his death in 1285 when Edward I became ruler.
